The Mercer Griffith Family Home, Barwon Heads

The Mercer Griffith Family Home, Barwon Heads

It is truly hard to believe that this was once a little seaside weatherboard shack. After purchasing the property in 2008, Fi and Hedley decided to transform this simple house into a large but very family friendly home.

A thorough process was undertaken; ensuring that it was going to tick all the boxes in creating a very unique space; but it was also very important for the design to be sympathetic to the beauitful Barwon River surroundings, together with the inclusion of a two bedroom, self contained pod, that serves as the perfect place for family and friends to stay.

Polished concrete, poured concrete benchtops and timber cladding are at the centre of the palette together with Mount Angus stone fireplace that takes command within the main living area of the home, as a concrete hearth runs beneath and beyond to outside where there is a continuation of the stonework to an outdoor fireplace and entertaining area. This truly is the masterpiece of the home.

This is another example of space designed around passive northern light, visual connection to its surroundings and open plan comfortable living. A credit to the process and it boasts an award for the design and construction with Master Builders.
